Inge Dekker temporarily out of action
18 FEBRUARY 2016
SummaryIn a standard screening top swimmer Inge Dekker is diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The following statement was released yesterday by KNZB (Royal Dutch Swimming Association):
In a standard screening top swimmer Inge Dekker is diagnosed with cervical cancer. The coming period is therefore dedicated to research and treatment of this disease. At present, there are still many uncertainties and statements about any return to the top level therefore can not be made.
In a reaction Inge tells us: "It is obviously very shocking when this kind of news reaches you. The past three years I was just focused on the Olympics in Rio and then you get to hear this. Suddenly, life stands still and you see how relative it all is. In the passed few days I have got used to the news and I am looking to the future with confidence. I stay positive and will do my very best to recover well. I will let go of the things I can not control, but the Olympic Games in Rio, I have certainly not put them out of my head yet."
